Ive recently upgraded to ADSL2 and have received a Thompson wireless gateway.  I have this modem/router directly connected to a PC, also to a switch which is attacherd to a NAS drive, the DIR655 and an xbox 360 (wirelessly).

I had it all working quite seamlessly with an older 2wire adsl modem but the upgrade has caused a number of issues.
- NAS drive files cant be viewed from the xbox (but the PC can)
- Xbox live is connected but not readily connecting to games
- i cant access the DIR655 config screen over the network (says it is on a different network), i have to plug it into the modem/router directly and even then it takes the install disk to get the config screen up

I believe then that there is an underlying subnet mask(?) issue and port forwarding issue but I dont have enough experience to string the pieces of info about these topics together into a solution.  Is it about the subnet, the IP addresses, permissions on the router for ports or all of the above? 

The high level steps of an approach would help.  Thanks

It's likely you're running double NAT (try wiki for NAT) so devices that on your DIR can't see those that on your Speedtouch and vice versa. You have to turn off the NAT function in one of your devices so they're running on the same subnet. To turn off router function of your DIR-655 you have to disable its DHCP server and UPnP function then set your DIR IP address to one in the same subnet as your Speedtouch but not in the DHCP pool of your Speedtouch. Please look at the manual for the exact location of these features. Lastly, plug the LAN cable that runs from your Speedtouch to your DIR to a LAN socket (1-4) and NOT the internet port.

Why I recommend this? Over the course of more than half a year using the DIR with its router function, I have found this function of the DIR is not as reliable as my old Speedtouch 530v6 that should be around 4 or 5 years old. I guess D-Link as a consumer grade networking company can't compete with Alcatel Thompson which is one of the prominent names in business telecom.

Thanks Bigeyes - your advice definitely pointed me in the right direction.  Had to re address all devices on the network, which, now that I have it all working, makes sense.
