Dir-825 Sip incoming call problem
« on: February 23, 2010, 09:30:10 PM »

I purchased dir-825 a couple of days ago and ever since then cannot make my sip work. I'm using a dlink dvg2001s voip adapter and before dir-825 I had linksys wrt160n that worked flawlessly with the unit. I have downloaded the beta version of the firmware and managed to get the outgoing calls working but to this day have no incoming calls at all. I spent almost 2 hours on the phone with technical support both residential and business, forwarded ports, checked and unchecked every single setting that could possibly affect the issue to no avail. I tested out my sip server by loading the settings into xlite and it works just fine on the computer through the same router. I know xlite uses peer to peer in order to connect so maybe that's what makes the difference. The technical support cannot help me, they are a clueless bunch, just transferred me around from person to person. Tried working with a technical support from my sip company. I use myphone.ge and have been using it for 3 years now to connect to my folks back home in georgia using a local number. I need help soon or i will just have to return the unit and go with netgear or linksys again if i can't get that fixed.

Based on my experience with a Rev A. 825 and what others here are experiencing, RUN back to the store and give back that 825.

I unfortunately don't have that option and since I have a Rev A. I can't even try an alternative firmware such as dd-wrt.

I will probably have to do just that, return the unit. It's just other options are not much better from what I see. I had linksys before and except for flawless voip  and great range, even better than what i have now, it sucked otherwise. Had to be restarted all the time and i was advised on a forum like this one to update firmware and upon doing so the unit was fried. So i'm not going to linksys, there's a netgear unit that has no rating anywhere except for cnet and there it is not the best rating. So i'm thinking of going for a cheap trendnet Tew-672 GR unit. How much worse can it get. But still if anyone knows how to solve my problem i would love to solve it by the weekend or the unit is gone. A person shouldn't spend so much time on troubleshooting anything right out of the box. It's not normal.

by the way, i now have the voip adapter ip address in the dmz, i enabled it on my router, and i also opened port 5060 by enabling port forwarding, it makes no difference. when i log in to my voip account online it shows my phone offline but when i transfer my sip settings to sipdroid on my brothers Google Touch the phone is shown as online in the account and he can receive and make calls, so i know for sure that this is a router problem.

Been trying to get Voip to work with DIR-825.  SIP works, but is hardware dependent!!!!  Discovered the issue is bandwidth conflicts with the "N" type of wireless router and some of the VOIP vendors hardware! For example, Vonage Linksys systems work but Broadvoice does not (Vonage uses a different protocol). Managed to speak with a knowledgeable person at D-Link (what a surprise) and learned that you need to disable SIP and a lot of other settings. She spent 25 minutes disabling the preset VOIP settings and reconfiguring the DIR-825. Now my Talkswitch VOIP works (but I have to reboot the DIR-825 every few days).

Additionally, I still have not been able to resolve the address misdirection problem (typed in "gmail.com", and was sent to some other website.).

The best solution, switch to a non-D-Link type "G" router or use another type of non-wireless router, hang the DIR-825 off of the other router, and don't route VOIP traffic through the DIR-825.

Well, I got my DIR 825  finally to work with voip incoming calls.

I have betamax voip service (voipstunt) and Grandstream sip device hooked to DIR 825.
The following modifications in my router made incoming calls come through:

1) Advanced-Port forwarding settings - added IP address of sip device and UDP port 5060-5061
2) Advanced-Firewall Settings - Uncheck SIP Application Level Gateway (ALG) Configuration
3) Advanced-Firewall Settings - Enable DMZ with sip device IP address

Calls started coming through!
P.S. not sure if all of these steps are neccessary or mutually exclusive. Give it a try.
