DGS-3100 VLAN Help
« on: February 26, 2010, 07:20:32 PM »

Hello.

I didn't see anything for the DGS-3100, so please excuse me if I've posted in the wrong area.

I need some help with VLAN setup in the DGS-3100 24 switch. Really great switch with some great features, but as far as examples and how to scenario's...they are far and in-between.

I am confused with how to implement VLAN's on this type switch and also, how to tag the vlan traffic to traverse to other switches.

I am using the PFsense 1.2.3 version Firewall and have set up a VLAN. As per PFsense, I have set the port that pfsense connects to on the DGS-3100 as a vlan trunk port. On that same switch, I have also set another port as the VLAN access port and set it as untagged.

How then, am I supposed to set the VLAN Trunk port as "tagged" in the DGS-3100?

Am I missing a step with GVRP or LACP?

Thanks for your help.

Nope, GVRP and LACP are not your magic buttons here.

A VLAN trunk port would be tagged on all VLANs.  Simply make that port a tagged member of all VLANs that need to egress over that port.

An VLAN access port should be untagged and only a member of a single VLAN.

Hello,

Need info about the DGS-3100-24TG.  Switch support MVR (Multicast VLAN registration)?
