D-View Cam 3 Fatal Error "Missing or corrupted files"
« on: March 01, 2010, 08:29:53 AM »

There is a serious, fatal flaw in the software.

I emailed support, but do not know if they will ever respond?

On four different hardware platforms, using clean installations of XP sp3 Pro with all the current updates, the
software fails after a day or less of running.

When the "Record" icon is clicked from the main program screen the following message results,
"Error, Missing or corrupt resource files. Please reinstall system to solve this problem"

Removing the D-View Cam 3 software, cleaning the registry and rebooting does not solve the issue, as after installing the D-View Cam 3 again the issue immediately reappears.

Has anyone found a solution?

thanks
marty

I went down the same long and winding path, to finally come to the conclusion that anything above 1280x1024 resolution did not work on my boxes. But again, it could be a combination of video-card and set screen-resolution and/or -ratio (4:3 vs 16:9)...

Thanks for your help.

Had installed a super/duper video card into this computer and got carried away by how high the resolution could be set.

I reduced the resolution from that extremely high value to your suggested values and the error has not reappeared.

Well, the problem is that anyone with several popular versions of a 24" LCD will need to run at 1920x1200 as it's the natural resolution of the monitor.

I do also work from a 24" 1920x1200 (Sammy, innit?), but I have 4 locations/boxes from which I can either record, view or make backups... It is not that bad, the 1280x1024 resolution. Yep, native might be higher and really better, but it is still viewable.

No, this is not good for a permanent solution, but you could either view on another box, or add a monitor to your computer that supports 1280x1024 (keep in mind that DViewCam starts up on your 'main' monitor only).

We might have to wait for the really, really nice guys at D-Link to bring out a minor update release to fix the 4-5 bigger issues we've seen in V3.0 (resolution, multi-cam local/remote playback, multi-cam remote view, date/time selection, event handling and probably 1-2 more).

I can confirm your solution. I work with a Dell 24" 1920x1200 and I have the fatal error, but if I change to 1280x1024 then I can run the playback software.

Thanks.

Please try version 3.01 available at http://tsd.dlink.com.tw it is listed under DCS-100. If this version still has this issue I will report the issue to Product Management. Unfortunately my monitor does not support this high of resolution or I would check it out myself.

Will download an check 'Beta-like' now...

Update: No good. Still same Error... Using remote desktop (in 1280x1024) or lowering resolution from 1920x1200 to 1280x1024 is only way out (on my 64 bit Vista box, have not tried 3.01 yet on 32-bit Vista/W7 yet). I see that 1600x1200 is supported...

Remote Live viewer still only allows 1 camera at a time.

This 3.01 is from around 8/3/2010... I was hoping for a fix there. Will try multi-camera playback to see if that one does work now. Update: Not possible from Remote Playback.

Looking at the Release notes, not a lot of things were fixed in that release... I hope this is not the final freeze checkout, that will be rolled out to the public. Not that much has changed since 3.00. Also the switching off in the UAC (introduced in 3.00) is not the right way to go. Better use Public- or User-area folders for storing data and logs...

So you are now able to run the software with your desktop set to 1600x1200?

The remote Live viewer and remote playback are not going to support multi cameras in this version I was told so that is not a broken feature.

Alas, running Playback.exe in 1600x1200 mode displays same error, even though there is a 1600x1200 subfolder in \Program Files[ (x86)]\D-Link\D-ViewCam\skin\Playback\<Language>.

So, 1280x1024 is still maximum resolution supported. I have tried quite a few esoteric screen-resolutions, but anything above 1280x1024 will yield in the Error of this thread.

What cameras are installed on your system and what models? Also does your video card support Directx and is it updated to the latest version?

Multiple DSC-920's only, all wired (10/100 switches/routers used) as throughput and image-quality are important (need 640x480).

Oh yes, as an IT guy I keep everything (SW) up to par, so latest everything, all cards support Directx and running Directx-10 and -11 on all boxes (range Vista 32, Vista 64 and W7 32). Oldest box is about 2 years old, and video cards are mostly ATI of later model. ATI-driver is late this month, 10.3 is their latest at this moment.

EDIT: Are there any plans for a Linux-version of D-ViewCam? I've got a few here (various flavours)...

Would you mind emailing your Dxdiag Information it would be really helpful. We have systems that it does allow displaying at resolutions such as 1920x1080 and 1600x1200 without any issue so we need to diagnose the any possible causes. Please email info to dlinkmm@gmail.com

Info sent. Are 'they' 64 bit boxes? Seems to be fine on my 32-bit ones, but no good on 64.

Oh I see. So the resolution issue is not a problem on 32 bit machines?

The dxdiag u sent me did not seem to list your OS as being 64bit.
