Web Access control not working
« on: March 02, 2010, 12:07:55 PM »

I may be doing it incorrectly, but I'm trying to configure web access rules.  I first set up access control and tell it to use the website filter.  I've tried configuring it by both MAC address and IP address (separately, not simultaneously), but it still allows the listed sites in the web filter to get through.  Is there something else I need to block or am I not doing something correctly?  The network is on DHCP reservation, so IP addresses are always the same.  MAC addresses, as I mentioned, don't work, either and they are fixed and logged in the router.

Hi,

You must use DNS Relay feature to use websitel filter and seemingly access controls...  Not sure why they did this, but it works when you enable DNS Relay.

Hello,
I am having a bit of a problem with this feature as well.
The really weird thing is that sometimes it works, and sometimes it does not.
For instance, if for example I blocked yahoo.com, sometimes i would get the d-link 'forbidden' page when
pointing my browser there, and sometimes it would work fine.
Same computer, same IP, same everything, as far as I can tell it is completely random.

I have dns relay on, I have the access management on (with the 'block some access' setting checked), as well as the website filter, etc.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Oh, also, I upgraded to the new firmware hoping that might do the trick, but it is the exact same thing, it worked for a bit, and now it has stopped again.
thanks!

Solved it,

I was having the same problem and tried all sorts things with policy etc. I happened to click on Securespot and realized it was enabled by default. Since I don't intend to subscribe I took it off and voila.

So you need to disable Securespot. Click on Advanced --> Securespot and well you'll figure it out, it's very simple.

I guess it makes sense that having 2 webfiltering options could run you into some problems. So I guess good stuff from Dlink, they just don't let us know  :D

Thanks for your reply.
Nope, I actually have Securspot turned off (wretched thing...)
On a lark, I tried turning it back on, saving the settings, then turning it back off and saving it again,
and now webfiltering seems to be working again.
ridiculous...

See my posting from today under Website Blocking not working.  Instructions to fix are there.
Instructions from dlink "help" are incorrect.

Hello
New to forum
I have had the DIR 655 for a number of years. Performs well over the old Netgear I had.
Problem, I would like to enable the access control feature between the hours of 9PM and 5AM every night.
I have tried to accomplish this in the access control area of the Dlink DIR-655 on-line screen. When I try to do that, during the process (the 3rd? window in) as soon as i put a name to the policy it "the internet explorer" Dlink window crashes.
I see another area that allows schedules, thinking this might be a parent feature to the access control. Filled that out and that works, but no, same crash happens when attempting to put this in.
I read here that DNS relay feature needs to be checked "on", cant find that at all.
I just updated the firmware from 1.33 to 1.35 but nothing but the secure spot went away as far as I can see and no noticeable differences.
Does anyone have real solutions for this? really need to get this done help please

I found out on my system unless I set the time manually the time was WAY off.  So I thought access control was not working.  By default it seems to get it's time from the Internet.

You could set up the NTP time server option too, this should keep the time correct.
