Computer delays when booting, looking for drive

My PC boots up and it seems it is so busy it can't load most programs for about 30 minutes. Through some troubleshooting I found out that my PC is searching for my network drive. I have a shortcut on my desktop to the drive and a letter assigned for easy access.

Any ideas why this is happening or if there are settings I can change to prevent it? I have firmware 1.7 installed on the drive and am using Vista on the PC.

Does the issue go away if you remove the logical drive mapping?

I'm sure it didn't, but I will try it now and see what happens. That was probably the first thing I tried, but it's been so long the details of what happened escape me.

This doesn't sound like it has anything to do with the NAS.

Do you by any chance have libraries or other things that are pointing to you network drive ?

... you can alway usee MSCONFIG to see what exactly is causing this slow down issue ?

I unmapped the drive and am still having problems. It may have been a coincidence that my PC started acting up when I got the network drive, but I still think the drive has something to do with it.

What should I look for with MSCONFIG? I check what programs run at start up on a regular basis, but when it comes to the services tab I wouldn't know what to look for.
