having trouble port forwarding
« on: March 07, 2010, 10:17:40 PM »

I understand i have the wrong firmware and i cannot go back. but my issue is it seems i cannot port forward 5900 TCP & UDP. I want to run the program RealVNC from my iphone which requires ports 5900 to be open. I have allowed it through my firewall (AVG) and i have even tried turning the firewall off. I am able to contect when my iphone is on wi-fi using the internal IP but unable to contect through 3g using my external IP. I have tried port forwarding other ports and changing the config's in vnc server but still to no avail.

Subject: Port forwarding
Model: DIR-655
Hardware Version: a4
Firmware Version: 1.32NA
Operating System: Windows Vista 32bit
Service Pack: -
Purchased From: Australia
ISP: TPG Internet
Firstname: Karim

my response from dlink aus was
Hi Karim,

I looked at your configuration and it appears to be correct.
If you were running 1.21 firmware then it should work as I can configure 1.21 firmware has no issues with port forwarding.

Unfortunately we do not support 1.32NA firmware, you also cannot downgrade from this firmware either.

The only option that you have is to go to the D-Link US forums and consult the technicians there.

if you check my very recent post, virtual server worked to do basically the same thing.
You need one virtual server for each port.  Port forwarding is broken but I have not seen any acknowledgment of it yet.

its working, i found this thread

"I changed the config on the DIR-655 to connect to my DSL using PPPOE instead of having my modem make the DSL connection. I basically left all fields on the modem blank, meaning blank username and no password. Then, switched the internet configuration on the DIR-655 to PPPOE instead of Dynamic IP (DHCP), entered my ISP username and password and now all is great."

but i still had to use virtual server. thanks heaps

You mentioned you weren't doing dynamic.  Did you switch your computer to "Assign IP automatically?"  If you don't, then you won't get internet.
