OK, I have already submitted a support ticket to DLINK and its been a week and have no answer. I did some searching in the forums but have not found any problems similar to mine.
I ve been using DIR-655 for 10 days now. It have been a good experience so far. Everything its working alright but DDNS.

So you guys can get little background of my home network I throw in some details.

-Zhone 6381-A3 (that's my DSL gateway) ip 192.168.1.1 (connected to DIR-655 wan port)

-Qnap TS-210 (nas) 192.168.0.20 (behind dlink router)

-Y-CAM Black (video over ip) 192.168.0.21 (behind dlink router)

-DLINK DIR-655 firmware 1.33NA then downgrade back 1.21 (for testing DDNS stuff) 192.168.0.1

It goes like this. My nas and camera got their own DDNS client updater (in my case use DynDNS). If I use the emmbeded client it resolves my isp ip to DynDNS flawlessly. I am trying to use the DIR-655 (of course disabling DDNS at all other net appliances) to be able to update DDNS, but when I do so, DynDNS will show that my resolved internet address to be the local ip (192.168.1.2) being provided by the DHCP by the Zhone modem. I need my DIR-655 to be the one to resolve DDNS because I need my ip camera and nas to be accessible in a failover scenario. I have no other problems forwarding the camera or NAS ports, and each are accessible from internet without problems.

What I have done to try to solve this problem:

-reserved ip address 192.168.1.2 in the Zhone modem. Configured DIR-655 internet access manually instead of automatic.

-made ip address 192.168.1.2 a DMZ.

-downgraded the firmware DIR-655 from 1.33NA to 1.21.

-changed DNS server setting from default ISP to openDNS address (208.67.222.222)

-turned off all DLINK and Zhone firewall setting. Relaxed all security settings at my DLINK.


What ticks me off is that for eg I configure the NAS to do DDNS, the internet ip will resolve correctly to DynDNS.

The question is: Why DIR-655 is resolving DDNS to is binded local ip given by Zhone modem and all other appliances are getting their internet ip correctly?

Will appreciate all the help, feel free to just throw some ideas.

From what I'm gathering, these forums aren't really for support but more for chatting about how happy you are with your D-Link product.  You may be better off contacting customer service via phone.

The Dlink DDNS client will take the WAN IP currently associated with it to report back to your DDNS service, in this case that IP is assigned by your DSL gateway. IOW, there's nothing wrong and things work as intended.

In order to change this behavior, you should turn off your DSL gateway router feature and run it as a bridge. Then use Dlink PPPoE client to log into your network. That way the Dlink will have your real internet IP and it will reports that IP back to your DDNS provider.

Based on the description in your email, the IP address that is terminating on the WAN interface on the DIR-655 is 192.168.1.2. This is a private IP address. For the DDNS feature to work on the router, a public IP address needs to be terminated on the WAN interface of the router.

If you want the DDNS feature to work on the DIR-655, kindly configure the DSL modem in bridge mode so that the public IP address that is provided by your ISP terminates directly on the WAN interface of the DIR-655. Then configure the DIR-655 in PPPoE mode.

Verify the connectivity.

Yeah, sounds like DDNS is resolving to the IP directly binded to router. Now I' am struggling configuring DSL modem as bridge. Will try contacting ISP see if the can help "doubt it" but is worth a try.
