Very Slow WAN - SOLVED!
« on: March 15, 2010, 01:00:21 PM »

I've read every post about slow WAN speeds and I suffer from this as well.

I have 12MB Fiber service at my house. I dont use a modem. Ethernet cable runs ino my basement and directly to the 825. I use a PPOE connection. I'm only getting 4.5MB max on this brand new 825. I hooked up the router that my ISP provided (linksys wrt54g) and easily hit 12MB with default settings. Speed tests were done on speedtest.net on a machine wired directly to router.

On the 825 - I have adjusted the WAN port speed to 100MB only with same test rsults. QOS has been disabled, and still same slow test results. I think I messed with every option, and retested with no luck.

Is there something I am missing here? Surely this 825 has to hit higher speeds.

Thanks for any help you may provide.

Regards

Update 03/17/2010 - Exchanged my 825 for a new one. Same exact results. Less that 5MB WAN speed on a 12 MB connection. Hooked up the trusty wrt54g again and tested and it worked perfectly - 12MB down. Somebody else has to have experienced the same problem with this 825. Is everyone else getting the speeds they pay for?

Update 03/17/2010 (2) - Downloaded the version 2 beta firmware on the D-Link FTP site. Believe this one is dated October 2009. Entered in my PPOE settings and I'm back to a full 12MB service, without messing with any other settings. Wired connection to PC/HP Server seems stable so far but WiFi stability has definitely been intermittent. Macbook keeps dropping N connection and iPhone keeps asking to re-input password. WPA-Personal security used. The 2.4 GHz band is set as b & g only, and the 5 GHz band is set for n only.

I had a similar issue with Dir-655, Ping test to the router from PC was not loosing packets
but here and there I was getting upto 9ms return on a 1ft cable, also I have multiple PC connected
via LAN cable, One PC will do good while the other will slow down, updated the firmware switched cable but nothing helped. And occaisionally the connection will be just broken ... Reason BAD HARDWARE

Took it back and got a 825, works pretty good .. you should swap yours too
