Updating Seagate 1TB firmware
« on: March 17, 2010, 08:02:36 PM »

Hi All

I have Dlink 323 with 2 x Seagate 1 TB drives that need firmware update. To the extent i could search, it is not possible to upgrade disk firmware if it is in NAS or USB drive. Can someone give me instructions on how to upgrade the firmware? I have a Windows XP laptop and iMac to use.

thanks in advance.

Hi, your best bet is to download the CD ISO image from Seagate support site, than mount your drives to a machine with SATA port, boot up, and it takes less than a minute to get the job done. The update software will check your drive matches what it is meant for, and whether your drive need updating. One caution is that there seems to be some issues with updating 500GB Barracuda, better go some googling before hitting the road.  There is also a Window executable for updating the drive, but you still need a machine with a spare SATA port. I tried those USB-SATA docking bay, the update software on the CD does not buy that (I think it is using FreeDOS). eSATA should work but I have not try this route.
