I am having some strange issues.  Wireless seems to always work when i don't have any wired connections.  If i plug in a wired connection into the router sometimes i have no internet activity, sometimes i can connect to the internet but it will stop working after a couple of hours.  If i unplug the wired connections the wireless will have internet connection again.  The entire time the router says it is online and the admin tool also says it is connected.  

This started last week.  I have cable internet.  I don't know if that matters.  I upgraded to firmware v1.22 and still have the issue.  


Edit:  I have had this working for about 5 months.  My cable company was having issues last week but i think that is just a coincidence.  I don't see how it would cause the issue i am having.

What wireless modes are you using? I would try Wireless G mode only at 2.4Ghz and set channels to auto. What HW and FW versions is your 4500? Also what kinda of wireless devices are you trying to connect thru the 4500? Make sure the wireless devices are up to date on drivers for those devices that support them, i.e. Wireless cards or wireless USB cards. Ensure your primary and 2ndary DNS IP addresses are filled in into the Basic/Internet/manual section. Copy and paste this from the Status/Device info/WAN section. Let us know now this goes.

go into the settings and uncheck the logging.  reboot the router and see what it does...

log settings will really mess you up.

I would keep the logs going as they might tell you if you if there are any other issues. Let us know if you see any thing in the logs when you connect the wired connections.

My FW version is 1.22na.  It was 1.04 so i updated it yesterday because of this issue.  I just switched to 802.11g only but the same issue still exists.  the logs are not showing any issues. 

I have my router connected to a panel in the basement ( my whole house is wired ).  I normally have 2 rooms connected to the router.  When both are plugged in i have the issue.  I took out 1 and I am not having issues.  The room i have unplugged goes to a switch to connect and xbox 360 and my directtv reciver.  The room the is working has a switch that connects a pc and a home server. 

I really am stumped as to what is going on.  Is it possible the router has gone bad?  I would have to power it off and back on every once in a while.

seems like if you take one device off the network, and you get internet, could be something wrong else where. I've seen this if a lan cable is connected incorrectly and causes a loop by accident. I would check the cables and make sure the lines aren't being improperly connected in some fashion.

I think this was the issue.  One of my cables probably went bad from being stretched over time.  I would have thought the device would have just lost connection so i didn't think there was a bad cable issue.  Thanks for the help.  Now I know, a bad cable can do some strange things to a network.

Good to hear you found the issue. Sometimes things like that happen. You have to look at everything on the network to find the troubles somtimes. Check out getting CAT 6 cabling. Good stuff. Have a great weekend.
