DAP1522 Low Bandwidth
« on: March 26, 2010, 03:42:04 AM »

Have a DIR655, FW 1.33NA, been using DAP1522, FW1.21, for about a week. Been great. Now the bandwidth has dropped. Unable to play movies streaming from my NAS.

Tests from Speakeasy, for any machine connected via DAP, is .2x Mbs downloads. Main PC connected directly into 655 has over 10Mbs. The DAP connects fine. Just bandwidth is terrible. I've checked settings at both DIR and DAP, not sure what next ?

:)I reset all factory settings then played with Auto vs. manual channel selection. Now connected to DAP over 200 Mbs.. Everything working fine now. Don't understand how bandwidth just dropped below 40 Mbs as reported via DIR655.

Any ideas on why the change?

You could have somebody else in the neighborhood (just recently started) interfering with your transmission (i.e. using the same frequencies) or somebody is hitching a ride.

Have you set up protection to at least WPA (preferably WPA2 without automatic failover to WPA)? Can you see in the log of the DIR655 whether other connections are made through your router? Happens quite a lot, and WEP is crackable in seconds/minutes, WPA takes a bit longer, but is easy to break.

Disadvantage of WPA2 is slight loss of bandwidth or (not in your case, both being D-Link) incompatibility in WPA2 handling between different brands of equipment.
Are you using the basic 2.4 GHz or extended 5 GHz?
