Slow wireless speeds

I just picked up the DIR-825 today after returning a Netgear WNDR3700 that I had major problems with.  The netgear was slow on wireless and wired connections.  I tried numerous fixes posted in their forums, but nothing seemed to resolve the issue.  I had high hopes this DIR-825 would have no issues.  I set it up with the CD setup and the wired connection worked beautifully.  Fast as it should be with website popping right up.  Wireless speeds are another thing entirely.  I connect to the 2.4Ghz network showing full bars, 130Mbps connection speed, but websites just CRAWL.  Verified the router is connecting to my ISP fine and pulling the correct settings, but not sure why wireless speeds are so slow.  Connecting to the 5Ghz network was even worse.  The networks are setup with WPA Personal security.

Any thoughts on how to fix this speed issue would be appreciated.

Have you checked with Survey if maybe others are active in the neighbourhood? Could you select a different channel? If you get full bars, then this just means you have a good strong carrier-signal.

WPA is fine, WPA2 is better, and do not do the automatic WPA2/WPA as that just uses WPA whenever possible. Have you looked at the log to see if you are the only one on the wireless connection?

Thanks for those tips.  I'll change to WPA2 with AES, which I've read is the best way to go.  If that doesn't seem to address the issue, I'll try changing channels to see if I get any better speeds.  I'm rather disheartened that my wireless G router has been working like a champ for the last 2 or 3 years with no issues and my second attempt at wireless N has so far been a disaster.  I won't be able to test anything until later this afternoon, but we'll see what some troubleshooting turns up...

Just wanted to report back that I tested this again over the weekend and this time everything is working fine.  I did a full reset of the router (which I had done previously) and reran the setup and this time everything worked smoothly once it was done.  Speeds are nice and quick.  So far this seems to be a pretty awesome router.

Good to hear, but if the problem has an environmental cause, then it could come back... You have no issues with signal dropouts, etc? Could be somebody had some equipment on that interfered with your signal...

I don't think so, but I could be wrong.  It was slow as soon as I set it up previously and testing it off and on for several days yielded no improvement.  I basically boxed everything up and was planning to take it back to Microcenter, but got busy and forgot about it sitting in the closet.  Over the weekend I found it sitting there, realized I only had another few days before I wouldn't be able to take it back and decided to test it one more time before returning it.  Glad I did since it's now working and working very well.  I'll be keeping an eye on it though.  I still have my old trusty Linksys G router sitting in the closet to act as a standby if needed.  Hopefully I won't need it!  ;)
