Slow Interent speeds
« on: March 30, 2010, 03:11:03 PM »

Today I did a speed test on my internet through a wired computer connected my 655 and only got 10MB down but when connected directly to my modem I get 22MB down.  I messed around with some settings but nothing worked.  Will downgrading my firmware work?  I have the most current version.  Or other thoughts? Thanks

Reboot the router and see if that helps. Upon startup it runs a speed test to automatically determine your internet speed.

Didn't work.  Still am getting very slow internet speeds.  Any other ideas?  I'm thinking about upgrading to the Netgear 3700 router if I can't get this solved.

Check you WAN settings, make sure the connection between router and modem is set to Auto. I set it to 100 and 1000 and saw a decrease in throughput.
Now, I am assuming you are checking internet speed via hard wired connections. If you have your wireless connection improperly setup, you might suffer speed loss.

It sounds like you computers are setup correctly, but, try TCPOptimizer from www.speedguide.net. I know it works on XP and Vista, unknown if it would help W7.

I also started experiencing slow internet speed tests. I have 30 megabit up and down fiber. My speed went from 35-40 megabits down to 5-7 megabits. My first thought was the last route firmware update. I tried dinking with various router settings, etc... The REAL culprit was not the router. It turned out to be Malwarebytes malware/virus/spyware scanner (Malwarebytes.org). I uninstalled it, rebooted and what do you know... My speedtests were back to normal.

I hope this helps
