dir-655 works when hard wired, but not wireless
« on: March 31, 2010, 06:43:17 PM »

Hi there.. I need some help, hopefully somebody here can offer some advice. Here's what's going on.

My wife freaked out last night when I got home, and said she had no internet. I played around with it, and indeed could not get any internet. I could however see that I still was connected to the wireless network. I tried connecting directly to the dsl modem, and that gives me internet. Also, if I connect the dsl modem to the dir-655 router, and then use another ethernet cable to connect directly to the laptop, I have internet as well. But as soon as I disconnect that cable, I no longer have internet, even though it shows that I still have a 100% connection to the wireless network. So the router is working to some degree, but won't give me internet.

Does anybody know what the problem might be? What could I check to see what the problem would be?

Thanks for any help.

Hi wonkle,

Had that problem.

Fixed it by doing a Factory Reset and entered all information into the Router again.

I really don't think your computers need anything.
Hard wires should connect, no problem.
Wireless should connect once you set up your wireless options the same as before (through your hard wired connection).

You would have to log into the router after you hard reset it and then configure it according to the protocol that your ISP uses (DHCP, PPPoE or Static IP).
