DST fail? What the heck is bsecure? Dynamic DNS fail?
« on: April 01, 2010, 02:35:03 PM »

Ever since the 1.33NA firmware, which worked perfectly fine until the very hour daylight savings time hit here on the east coast of the U.S., I am having three issues that have finally gotten to the point where I am pulling my hair out.

ISSUE #1 - CORRECT TIME: I cannot get the dang router to correctly ping the time server and account for DST. It is always off by an hour now. Not only that, when I try to enable the settings, the router suddenly reboots itself and nothing is saved...

ISSUE #2 - BSECURE.COM: Following any reboot of the router, I am suddenly now being redirected to some strange site called bsecure.com. No matter what site I try to go to, I'm being taken there. My Firefox security settings keep telling me this is happening. What's the deal with this? It's very scary and I'm worried I'm being hacked or something.

ISSUE #3 - DYNAMIC DNS: What had been working flawlessly with OpenDNS via DNS-o-Matic, whereby the router automatically notified DNS-o-Matic of any change of IP address, which subsequently notifies OpenDNS (and other dynamic DNS services), suddenly that is not working anymore either. I know the settings for this are correct and like I said, it working perfectly before.

Did the switch-over to daylight savings time hose anybody else's router too? Am I the only one suddenly having these problems?

I am getting this now too.

Every time I try and set time router reboots and resets time info so its always off by 1 hour.

I hate this POS router. So many problems now because of damn firmware...

I hate no problems with 1.10 and and only upgraded to fix the security issues.. :(

Update: I managed to get back to 1.10 but found that only 1 of my xboxes could connect at a time so had to go back to 1.33na.

Sucks!

Wow. Finally somebody responded to my topic. But I understand as I was a noob and all my issues were already being dealt with in existing topics.

But...my date still is not correct and any attempts to tinker with the other settings does nothing but reset the router and the settings are never saved and the date jumps back to 2004.

I'm beginning to understand the rousing frustration on this forum over all this, having done some reading here now.

I learned about SecureSpot by googling.  My understanding, but I could be wrong, is that bsecure is a company separate from dlink.  Dlink sells or used to sell a separate box that one placed between their router and their connection to the internet and one would need to pay an annual subscription fee for the SecureSpot service.  Instead of needing a separate box, select routers in tandem with firmware can now provide the client-side setup that is needed for SecureSpot.  Personally, I would be reluctant to try SecureSpot if dlink cannot fix its firmware.

Not only that, but what sort of confidence can I or anyone else have in security when the security of both the router and the service supposedly providing extra security are hopelessly compromised...and neither of the companies involved seem to be able to solve it?

This is very simplistic, but it is working for me.

1. Save current settings (just in case)
2. Default router.
3. Disable all "options" (i.e. QoS)
4. Configure for 300 Mps (see sticky)
5. Turn off Daylight savings time.
6. Set time manually.

Enjoy!!

Only enable options if your REALLY need to.
Otherwise, the router "seems" to be working consistently, in my case.

In my case many of those "options" are "features" that I fully intend to use and require.

QoS means that my VoIP phone works reliably, port forwarding means that my son and his friends are not logged out from online gaming, WPA2 means that online banking is secure.

Like many other DIR-655 owners, if I didn't need these features I wouldn't have decided to "upgrade" my router.

While the HNAP security issue is not critical, it is De-link's responsibility to fix the problem.  These other "features" should also be operable as well!

(sorry for the rant... my frustration is purely at the ineptitude among De-link's firmware programmers!)

Maybe some overkill... So please do not flame me here. Just trying to help out:

Have you verified your Time Settings, inasmuch as the start and end dates/times of the DST? They must match your local timezone and DST standard. If one of them is off you could have some issues.

I personally have not had issues with DST and 1.33NA

Mack,

All I did when I tried to activate my DST check box was to check the box and save the change....Suddenly my rock stable 655 went into reboot loop and would not re-stabilize until I hard reset it and re-did all my settings by hand....
