DIR-655 no internet no ip address
« on: April 01, 2010, 08:19:35 PM »

Hello,
I am new to the forum and did some searching but with what I have tried I am still having a problem. I got my new DIR-655 this morning. It is version A4 if that means anything. I am connecting it to a Motorola SurfBoard SBG900 modem of course the internet source and from there to my desktop which is running Vista Basic 32. The desktop is seeing the router but it is not getting on the internet. I have called tech support a few times through out the day as well as my internet provider. The only thing that I have gotten out of this is that for some reason the router is not picking up on the ip address. I have went into setting and tried manual with the copy address button at the bottom of the page but when I go to save the setting changes it just says that there are no new changes. I do it anyway and nothing like it said no changes. I am replacing a linksys 120n wireless router and have tried to hook it up to see if it still worked and the desktop pulls in the internet fine just as it does with a direct connect to the modem. I did a firmware update and it is now 1.33na. I believe that is it. I downloaded the most recent one. lol Every time I try to use the set up disc it doesnt' go past the checking the network part after the set up. I have tried numerous times and different ways. I have tried starting the disc with it connected to my modem, to the old router and the DIR-655 but nothing and when it asks for the log in info for the modem and old router it never excepts the log in so I just choose to by pass that part and continue the set up. I am going tomorrow to get a new modem from my internet provider hoping that it will fix it. I don't know if for some reason the modem and the router just are not compatible. If anyone has any idea what I can do or has gone through the same mess, I would greatly appreciate some feed back. thank you.

Oh also I have done a power cycle many many different ways as directed to others in other forums. Power down modem, then router. power down router then modem. plug this back in first, plug that in first. I waited 5 minutes on the modem powered off and even as much as 30 minutes. I have turned off my desktop. The disc provided tells me to power cycle during set up one way and the included set up paper told me to do the power cycle another way. :/ It has been a kama sutra of power cycles. lol

Well, I went to my cable provider today. They gave me a new modem in place of the surfboard that I was using. The new modem is a lan only modem, no wireless. I tried again and again with no success though. Finally I decided to try to connect the DIR-655 to my laptop via lan and it worked. My Laptop is a new Gateway with Windows 7 64. Once I was able to get the internet connection with my laptop I was able to get my wife connected via wireless. Her laptop is the exact same model as mine. I then connected the router back to my desktop and this time it had an internet connection. Very strange. I just could not set up the router and network through my desktop. So for anyone who is having the same problem as me try another computer preferably a newer one I guess. I'm just a noob and I got it to work. xD 24 hours later and now I can sleep. lol

I know this sounds overly simple, but:

1. Disable all options
2. Use sticky to get 300Mps (whatever neesds to be done).
3. Disable Daylight Savings Time
4. Set time manually.

I did this and it started working just fine.
