HDD not readable on other DNS-323 or similar NAS boxes
« on: April 02, 2010, 06:22:58 AM »

Updated my dns-323 from 1.08beta to 1.08 final not long ago. Threw in a WD20EADS 2tb drive, formatted ext2, running as single disk. Relocated old Seagate 1.5tb (also ext2 single disk) to right bay after WD format complete, and remapped both, no problems at all, both working just fine on my end.

I just lent the WD drive to my cousin, to copy / xfer some large amounts of data - he's also using a dns-323 @ f/w 1.08final - but when he sticks my drive into his 323, he's presented with the format dialog - in either slot.
He's also tried viewing the drive in his Synology NAS, eSata direct to PC (using ext2ifs and ext2fsd) - tried to set permissions to RW but still not readable or showing up properly, he just can't seem to mount it by any means.

Any ideas? Never came across this type of issue before...TIA

Should be able to read it using the Windows ext2/3 drivers at the very least. Does this disk work in your NAS now? Perhaps removing it from your DNS 323 caused the problem? I'd be warey about swapping disks between DNS 323's that might have a different RAID level/drive configuration. God knows what will happen. Safest to mount the drive in Windows readonly using the ext2/3 drivers and transfer that way.
