Hello everyone, I'd like to first off by saying thanks to everyone's help from these forums. I have been following this forum for the past 2 weeks as I bought a new DIR-655 as an upgrade from a Linksys WRT54G and started having issues with it.

At first it seemed to worked properly at first but then I started noticing the wireless connection was very slow and intermittent. My wired computer to the router would work perfectly fine. Long story short I did a lot research, played around with the settings, hard resets, etc. but still couldn't figure it out. My previous router did not do this to me so I started to believe it was a defective router out of the box. Today I planned to exchange the router, but decided to upgrade the firmware as it was the only thing I didn't do in all my efforts. Out of the box, the router was running on 1.32NA and so I found a new firmware version 1.33NA on the dlink website. I didn't think about doing this step first because the fixes for the firmware didn't seem to be relevant to my issues. It worked! Huzzah! Half the day has gone by and no 'Wireless Restarts' in the logs and the throughput has been consistent. As well as upgrading the firmware, I did turn off some settings in the router as it seemed to help before upgrading it.

Router Settings:

Wireless Settings in SETUP
-802.11 Mode: Mixed G and B (I don't have N cards yet)
-Enable Auto Channel Scan: Unchecked
-downloaded 'inSSIDer' to determine the best Wireless Channel I can be on
(thanks to the advice of people here!)

QOS Engine in ADVANCED
-Enabled Traffic Shaping: Unchecked
-Enabled QoS Engine: Unchecked

WISH in ADVANCED
-Enable WISH: Unchecked

SecureSpot in ADVANCED
-Enable securespot services: Unchecked

Physical Setup:

-DSL modem about 1 ft away from DIR-655
-DIR-655 2-3 ft away from hardwired computer monitor and tower
-Router plugged into a surge protector
-Equipment, 1 hardwired computer and wireless laptop on main floor, 4
wireless laptops upstairs
-Mostly Windows 7, one Windows Vista and one MAC

Just to be clear, I had all these same settings before I did the firmware upgrade, so it was ultimately the firmware upgrade that did the trick for me. All other settings I left default other than setting my internet settings to PPPoE which is the protocol my ISP uses.

I wanted to share my story because I hope it will people out. Thanks again for everyone's help, much appreciated!

I agree.. the latest firmware has really improved my wireless connection. I've also copied your settings. I used to experience slow down after numerous wireless devices had connected to the 655, but now it seems very stable and consistent.

Via the admin/system router webpage. It allows you to point to the downloaded .bin file and then it will load into memory. Be advised: you need to do this from a WIRED LAN connection. It cannot be done via wireless!
