wired ports fail
« on: April 03, 2010, 05:01:49 PM »

all the wired ports, including the internet port suddenly stopped working!  Got a wireless card and connected to the wireless port and was able to upgrade firmware to 1.12, but the wired ports are still inactive.  Did multiple hard and soft resets, same results!  Any ideas??  Some times one of the wired ports suddenly shows solid green light with cable plugged in, but not responsive-ie not pingable, or does not publish DHCP.  Computer end always show "cable unplugged".  Even tried hard coding IP for internet with same results!  HELP!

thx

Call it in so we can get you new hardware (assuming you are under warranty).

Is this a systemic problem with these devices.  I had the exact same thing happen to me a while back... the ports worked fine like a switch but the switch didn't seem to be connected to the router - machines could talk to one another but couldn't get DHCP nor could static IP machines ping the gateway.  But the whole time the wireless side of the router seemed to work fine.

Just wondering if this is a software problem that happens due to some event?  And if so, what is it so we can make sure we avoid doing whatever it is?  Or is it a hardware problem that is due to some design flaw?

Ethernet ports failing individually or all at once is a common mode of failure for any Ethernet device, I know of no trends specific to this product to be concerned about.  That said I have never seen one have the switch still work but lose connection to the router, that is weird as all get out.

I don't know anything about warranty period, I would try calling in and seeing how far you get with what information you have.
