Connecting a second router?

Ok, here's my dilemma. I have my 2 computers connected to my DIR-615, and a Wii/DS which uses it's wireless.

I also have an entertainment stand with a ethernet ready PVR (Bell 9241), an XBox 360, and soon to be a PS3 and Blue-Ray player that also needs an internet connection.

I just picked up a free DIR-604 and would like to connect the PVR, XBox, Blu-Ray, PS3 to the DIR-604, which would then be connected to the DIR-615.


Is it possible? How would I do it? This one is all new to me. I plugged the 604 WAN port into one of the 615's ports, but doesn't seem to work and I'm not sure how I would access the configuration for it since 192.168.0.1 takes me to the DIR-615, so I'm not sure where the DIR-604 would be.

I don't have a DI-604, but I have connected a DI-624 router to a second router in the past. Try this...

1. Disconnect your computer from the 615.

2. Manually assign your computer a static IP address in the range 192.168.0.x where x is a number between 2 and 254. Subnet mask 255.255.255.0

3. Connect by ethernet cable to one of the LAN ports of the 604 and access its setup pages at http://192.168.0.1  Default username is admin and password is admin.

4. Disable DHCP and firewall on the 604. You should also disable UPnP if it supports it. Save settings.

5. Change the 604's default IP from 192.168.0.1 to an unused address in the range 192.168.0.xx, for example 192.168.0.2 That will be the address you will use to access its setup pages in future. Save settings.

6. Disconnect the ethernet cable from your computer and connect one of the LAN ports (not the WAN port) on the 604 to one of the LAN ports on the 615. You can now revert your computer to its previous IP settings (i.e. by DHCP, if that's your normal setup). Just for luck, reboot the routers and your computer.

That's it. The 604 should now act as a switch between the 615 and the additional hardware connected to it. Good luck!

wasn't there more replies to this? I was looking at getting a switch now and someone here posted a link stating "why route when you can switch" and provided a link to best buy with a nice $25 switch.

Can't find the darn thing now and it doesn't seem to show up in any posts.
