Xbox 360 Connection problems
« on: April 06, 2010, 03:38:57 PM »

Hey all. I have had problems galore with this router compatibility with xbox 360. At first it wouldnt assign an ip to my xbox so i tried to do it manually but still wouldnt connect. After restoring the factory settings, it would auto assign IP but when it did this it said something about my router MTU being too low or high. Luckily i can connect fine on my Hawking HWREN1 range booster. BUT i have to manually input DNS and router settings. Even though i can connect to the internet it suffers from disconnects every 5 minutes and reconnects back fine. What could be the problem and or solution to the router MTU message

set your mtu to 1400 on your router setting.  you can only set mtu to 1500 i dont think it goes any hire then that  xbox360 need to run at 1400 mtu  to work

Thanks for the reply. My mtu is set to 1500 currently.  Should I change it anyways?

What FW version is currently loaded? You shouldn't have to change the MTU at all. I've been running at 1500 with my 360 just fine over a wired connection. Please review the Gaming and Gamefuel settings for using the xbox. These will help you gain a stable connection. As for your disconnects, let us know your FW version.

Well now I'm using 1.15 and it was working before but now when I tried to fix the wireless performance it stopped. It won't assign ip but when it does it says dns can't resolve names ox xbox live. When done with the range extender it says same and sometimes won't assign ip.

are you using auto assign IP to the xbox, if so then I would go back and set the IP up for Static IP addressing. Doing this will ensure you always have the same IP address. This also helps in setting up the GameFuel settings. Once this is done I would also make sure that the Primary and 2ndary DNS addresses are filled in in Basic/Internet/Manual section. Look at the Status/Device Info/WAN section to get these addresses.

I would keep with v1.15 for now was it's a favored version. I also have a 2nd 4500 that runs this version and it works great with wireless and XBL.

Let us know.

Ok i tried changing the DNS settings and now it connects perfectly on the range extender but cuts out after 1 minute of connection. I just set the extender to G only so will see what happens. The strange thing is though is that when i try to connect it to the DGL wireless connection it just says not connected. Right now though im focused on fixing the extender because its the only method i have of getting only

Hmm, I haven't had much experience with extenders however I presume it should gain an IP address from the 4500? If it does then I would also set that up as a static IP as well. You might have to call up and get support help on the extender and make sure it's being setup well. Ya, I would use a wireless mode only if at all possible. WiFi is steadier when using one mode so it only has to handle that mode instead of 2 or 3. Specially in gaming. My buddy in OK has his on on G mode only at 2.4Ghz and we play well all the time, even while dad is online. I presume once the 4500 is set up well, all that is needed will be to get the extender set up and working well.

Let us know how this goes.

My replacement from dlink should be coming soon with my 1.02 firmware (oh yeah!) hey furry can you add me on xbox too in case I need more support? My gt is Richdasparta. Thanks
