Author Topic: New (2nd) DIR-655 won't save any settings, won't accept new FW (FW 1.21 HW A4)  (Read 5177 times)

Newbie here folks.  I'm not an I.T. guy like many here appear to be.

1st DIR-655 bought mid-December 2009.  Worked fine until the wireless signal stopped transmitting about 2 weeks ago.  Wired ports continued to work fine. That unit had 1.20 FW.

Radio Shack (The Source here in Canada) was kind enough to replace the router yesterday.  The replacement unit has 1.21 FW and HW version is A4.  It will not save any changes I make to it : Admin or User passwords, time settings, etc.  I attempted to downgrade the FW to 1.20 (like the previous one I had); I uploaded the 1.20 bin file and after reboot the unit is still at 1.21.  Seems like this unit doesn't want to accept any changes at all.  I'm connected through one of the wired ports and the wireless signal is turned off at the moment (now there's one change it did accept - turning off the wireless - which I did until I could secure this thing).

Am I missing something ?  Any of this sound familiar ?

Thanks in advance

Well it seems that 2 consecutive shots at the Reset button have so far resolved this.

As stated above, this unit came with FW 1.21 out of the box.  Is there any good reason to roll this back to a previous version ?

I am pretty sure that the A4 hardware ones can't go below 1.21.  I am using the new beta 1.34NA on my A2 and everything seems to be running fine.

I have this exact same problem, with exact same hardware and firmware versions.  It saved several times as I made my way through the settings, but then it stopped saving, and never offered to reboot, either.  Did you solve it by resetting twice?
