DIR 600 disconnects every thirty minutes
« on: April 11, 2010, 12:53:55 PM »

I have a new DIR 600 and it cnnects up to 11 pcs with a hub.

all computers are windows XP. Problem is LAN is ok... Everything is working properly as it should. the problem is that the internet connection drops every 30 minutes. Meaning I have to restart the router every time it happens.

I've called my ISP and there seems to be no problems with their end. I as well tested with 1 pc direct. Internet is fine.

I've tried hard reseting router but still same problem.

Disabled the wireless just to be sure it was not the one causing the problems. still connection restarts.

I've also tried switching LAN ports on router just to be sure.. still no go...

I've tried switching IP address of router.. still no go...

I've tried setting it up with cd... still no go....

I've tried changing out lease time on IPs as I've read still no go...

I've also tried inputing DNS servers into it... yes they are the correct ones since when I connect those 2 DNS servers are the one showing up in the status..

I've also tried upgrading firmware to 2.02... as that is the latest in this region... still getting same problem...

anyone have any other ideas on how to resolve this issue... I've done everything that I could possibly think off..   >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Note: The reason why I changed to DIR-600 is that my Di-604 quit working on me... meaning it sometimes isolates the network limits the connection to 2 or 3 pcs at a time.

good thing is that now... i have verified that it was the DI-604 that was the problem since now... if one pc has no connection all pcs have no internet connection  ;D

Hello,

it may be an issue I noticed, after sometime the router does not perform DNS relay, one way around is to use the IP addresses of the DNS servers provided by the ISP and hard set it in the PC.

I do not know if Slink will fix the issue with a new firmware.

Regards,

Hi!

What's that? You mean from http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/DIR-600? I didn't see that before, I have to try that. My router setup page has the headline "Product Page :  DIR-600   Hardware Version : Bx  Firmware Version : 2.02" so I have 2.02 from 20100107 that can be found here ftp://ftp.dlink.cz/dir/dir-600/driver_software/, there is also a 2.03 but judging from the release notes that fixes only two issues that seems unrelated to unwanted forced disconnects.

I bought a D-Link DIR-600 in germany in july and it disconnects from Skype and IRC abut once every five minutes. The problem in Skype is that during a call it gets dropped every five minutes, and in IRC I get temporarily banned in several channels because channel bots detect that I have a connection problem. To try to fix the problem I've forwarded the irc server port and skype port, with no difference, besides that I don't know how to fix it since there is no way to turn off the firewall or its ping-flooding/portscan filters or any other settings that could possibly be part of the culprit in this case, as you can see from its manual http://files.dlink.com.au/products/DIR-600/Manuals/DIR-600_B1_Manual_v2.01.pdf.

Update: I tried dd-wrt as you recommended and it doesn't have the disconnect problem. So the problem is solved as far as I'm concerned.

I had the same problem. In manual wireless setup change mixed mode b,g,n into g. All my laptops are g and that worked for me
