I have a DIR-655 running the lastest firmware 1.33 and Hardware revision A3. It has worked okay for the time I have had it over a year.

This last week has been really bad. I upgraded the firmware from 1.32 to 1.33 about three weeks ago.

Well this last week I have been loosing Internet access on the wireless only. In other words I could have Internet access from the wired side. Be transmitting a network signal without internet on the wireless side. I can get to the router control panel by a browser on the wireless side but no Internet.

I have tried resetting back to factory defaults. But that only for a little bit like less then 2 hours. I can also regain the internet on the wireless side by rebooting the router but again only for a couple of hours. Any ideas?

It seems strange that I would have Internet on the wired side all of the time. It also seems strange that I would have it for less then two hours if I reboot the router.

Everything??  Being more specific would have been helpful.

I have two suggestions.  Reflash with a fresh downloaded image copy of the 1.33NA.

Use NetSurveyor software and analyze the wireless traffic in your immediate area.  Set your router manually and do not rely on auto channel.

Hi,

Sounds like maybe a neighbor has recently started using their own wireless LAn near your home/apartment.  If their channel is the same as yours, it can easily interfere with your signals.

Did you guys get a new portable fone maybe ?  If it is using the 2.4Ghz band, it can also interfere.

Pewrsonally I run mine in vertical position and have the power wwart plugged into one of my battery backup plugs so it gets "cleaner" electricity.....

Just a few thoughts...

I would recommend using InSSIder to see what is going on with the wireless channels in your area.  Like Sammydad1 mentions it could be a neighbour has installed their own router (or other wireless equipment) in the same bandwidth.

Given the age of your router (over a year old) it could also be a hardware failure in the wireless portion of the chipset.  Does it run hot?  The core temperature of solid state devices is much hotter than the external temperature of the device itself, and the same relationship exists between the device temperature and the external temperature of the router itself.

Thanks for all the ideas. However, I have looked at wireless with issider traffic already and I am running on Channel 11 and have been for a long time. Everybody else is running channel 6 and one person on channel 9.

So I cannot see that as a problem.
I have reflashed the firmware and reset back to factory specs. Before I could access the Internet on my two Apple iphones and two HP Laptops. Now none of them can get Internet but can get a strong signal and surf to the Router log in page.

I have powered off for an hour also.

Any other ideas?

Just a reminder that ISSIDER, as well as NetAnalyzer, are fine diagnostic tools that everyone should have and use.  ISSIDER does a fine disclosure of what is broadcasting, but a very poor job of graphing.  NetAnalyzer is just the opposite.  Much better graphing but not as much actual signal detail.
What is important to remember though, is both only disclose what is broadcasting visibally in your immediate area.  It will not show what is not visibally broadcasting (except for your own, known router).

Routers that are invisible will not show and therefore it is still likely that you may still have conflicting signals interfering with your wireless connection.  Try other channels even if your analysis software says there is nobody using your channel.  Other routers  may be "invisible."

After having played with both, I prefer INSSIDER, because of the details. Graphing is not as important. But 'invisible' routers will show up as 'Unknown SSID' (like all of mine), which will still supply you with the bare essence.

I am one of these try-for-the-highest-security-invisible-router-paranoia-freaks, as I do not want to advertise what is running here.

But INSSIDER is the tool to go for.

Here's another one that someone else recommended:
http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php

I stll like inSSIDer better, but Xirrus' is nice too.

I tried the Datlight savings time suggested in the feed before and it was not the problem. The rest of the settings. Remember I have changed nothing and the problem is new within this last week,

solution involves buying some SMA extention cables and wiring them to green bean cans with an end cut off. u know the thing in each antenna is just a self sheilded canceled out tiny 3/4 inch wire right theres no antenna at all.
