netbios and master browser
« on: April 20, 2010, 07:27:37 AM »

Hey all.  I am looking for a better way to improve network neighborhood.  I normally have a pc as the master browser but it seems to be slow.  I noticed in the dlink network setup you can have netbios on the router do the broadcast.  Has anyone used this feature and does it work good or have any suggest?
thanks

the solution is to make your own network neighborhood folder on each computer and make shortcuts to \\computernamehere for each computer that will work instantly better yet set all macs up with static ips and set those folders to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ip format and those connect direct faster then netbios could ever dream of working

Well, i want to try doing it through network neighborhood.  to me if it works good all should work good.  for instance when my pc boots up there is a long delay as it connects to the map drives.  at my office i have a pc with shared folder that stays on and it comes up instantly.  and i haven't configured it at all.  racer how do you have the settings on the router, it was a bit confusing for me

I have the following settings:

NetBIOS announcement: <Checked>
Learn NetBIOS from WAN: <Unchecked>
NetBIOS Scope: <Blank>
NetBIOS node type: Broadcast only

Hope this helps.
