HOW TO SHARE MY NET CONNECTION??
« on: April 20, 2010, 11:28:19 AM »

OK guys i have a cable net connection.I have in total 4 computers in my home. All Desktops.

I got  DLINK DIR 615 WIRELESS N ROUTER today. My computer functions as the admin computer. The other three are my mom's ,dad's and my sister's.
Before my net connection was shared through my computer to a switch then to the other computers. But it showed some problems so i got the router.

THIS IS THE PRESENT SETUP.

INTERNET>>CABLE MODEM>>ROUTER>>MY COMPUTER,SWITCH

So one of the output LAN port is connected to my computer and another one to the switch.SO how do i get the net connection to the others without activating DHCP , i.e. , that is i do not want any mumbo-jumbo connecting his computer  to my switch and the router handing them the IP addresses like hot free pancakes :).

I want all the computers getting a static IP .And can my computer get a STATIC IP keeping in mind that i have a CABLE connection and my cable connection has a DYNAMIC IP.
As an added precaution i have already disabled the WIRELESS.
I need the net connection on the four computers of my house only.

NEED answers A.S.A.P. thanks in advance guys

First why use the switch when you have 4 available ports free on the router?!?!!?!?
2nd, no worries about no mumbo-jumbo connecting to your router if you secure it using a WPA2 key and you already said that you disabled the wireless on your router. How could it be possible?? No physical connection to your router, wireless off, it's not possible.  If you want an extra layer of security you can add macfilters for every one of the pc's. The DHCP server is pretty good for this router. I don't know how one could connect to your router if you disabled the wireless function.

What revision is your router? DIR-615 rev C or D? If it's C take a look at the emulator! It's pretty straight forward.
http://www.support.dlink.com/emulators/dir615_revC/310NA/index.htm

You are very determined to have static ip configuration.

Go to 192.168.0.1

Manual Internet connection

My Internet Connection is: Dynamic

Network settings: Disable DHCP server

Setup mac filters: Advanced->Network Filter->check 4 boxes and add the coresponding mac addresses. This after you have valid connections for all the pcs so they will be listed. If not copy the mac addresses and enter them manually.

DON'T FORGET TO SAVE.

Then from every pc's network settings set-up consecutive static IPs.: 192.168.0.100, 192.168.0.101, 192.168.0.102, 192.168.0.103 from the 192.168.0.0 subnet.
DNS: 255.255.255.0
Gateway:192.168.0.1
DNS: leave it automatic or you can add Open DNS (208.67.220.220) and Google DNS (8.8.4.4)

Dude are you for real!?!?!?!? You're asking for help, I'm giving it to you then you come back and you want advices on how to follow advices from some other obscure webpage??!!?!?!? Those are general advices on how to secure a router. What I've given you here are specific for the DIR-615 router.
A thanks would've been nice. Everything is in my post

Gmail has an attachment size limit btw.

Ungrateful. Geezzzz, what a nerve. You want it done as written on that website, ask help there not here. My time is precious.
