What wrong with my uplink speed?
« on: April 23, 2010, 12:13:33 PM »

I use to have up to 11 uplink speed now I have up to 8.8 uplink speed. I use gamefuel and I read about the measured uplink speed. I have cable speed comcast.

Measured Uplink Speed

This is the uplink speed measured when the WAN interface was last re-established. The value may be lower than that reported by your ISP as it does not include all of the network protocol overheads associated with your ISP's network. Typically, this figure will be between 87% and 91% of the stated uplink speed for xDSL connections and around 5 kbps lower for cable network connections.

Whenever you reboot the router, it will automatically try to measure your upload speed.  When you do that, make sure other devices are not trying to go on the internet or it will affect the measured upload speed.

Also, take it's result with a grain of salt. Since it only uses one server to run the test, it can be effected heavily but all sorts of factors. When it comes to performance, there no easy answers.

i had this same exact problem. the problem lies with 1 or 2 things. #1, disable Automatic Uplink Speed on the Advanced--Gamefuel tab.  set the manual uplink speed to its max setting (2048) or type in your own if its higher.  if that works, great. if not, disable Enable Advanced DNS Service on the Basic--Internet--Manual Configure tab.  hope this helps! i know it did for me.

Yea, but if his upload is actually decreasing, and your trafficing the data for a higher connection then you actually have, then its actually going to create lower performance. So first you should find out what your actually upload is by doing multiple tests with the router bypassed.

Well you can't always blame the router if it was a up link speed of 11 before and just because 1 or 2 weeks your getting a up link of 8.8 does not mean its the router fault it could be your ISP. By doing what Hambone43 said it can push the router to go no lower then 2048 which might do the trick but it can just be the ISP.

It you do the same test from the same sight one after another, you'll often get measured speed differences of that or more.  Do it at like 4am and you might get slightly more consistent readings, but still gotta take those numbers with a grain of salt like Trikein said.
