« on: April 28, 2010, 09:43:34 AM »

New EU firmware (multilingual) just released today. Get it directly from D-Link ftp server in Germany.

ftp://ftp.dlink.de/dir/dir-825/driver_software/DIR-825_fw_revb_202EUb04_ALL_multi_20100212.zip

Please don't forget to post here your experiences. :)

Is this official or a beta?

It is official. As you see here it's available through D-Link official website.

My experiences so far:
Seems really stable
SIP is working

BUT...

Wireless signal strength is extremely weak with this version. Actually it decreased more than 40% (yeah >40%) on both bands. Considering that DIR-825 output already was disappointingly weak compared to other Atheros-SOC routers (e.g. WNDR3700), the fact that D-Link decreased it even more makes this firmware a total disaster.

I wonder if North American folks who use 2.03NA firmware noticed that too. Maybe it's a EU-specific limitation. I'll try to flash router with the NA firmware to see how is going.

Tried NA version with no better results.
Much slower performance and 30-40% weaker signal strength on both bands. My other wlan equipment report DIR-825 signal 20-30% lower than before; same using my lab field meter.  :(

I installed the EU version but my 5GHZ Macbook doesn't show up in the status section anymore. The 2.4GHZ Thinkpad is there. Totally strange.
Cannot say anything about the speed yet :(

Yes it's a bug (what a surprise!) not existed in NA version.

****.. how did they manage to screw this up now? :(

They had all the time to do that. Nine months after their last official firmware and they managed to release an even worst one! Great job D-Link :)

New bug found: No more 40Mhz channel width on 2.4 band. Even with "Auto 20/40" setting and N-only all my wlan gear report single 20MHz channel connections to DIR-825; No problem on 5Ghz, though.
Previous firmwares worked fine with 40Mhz on 2.4Ghz.

This bug, plus the decreased TX power and the unbelievably slow speeds make this firmware totally useless (at least for me).

After hours messing with the "new" firmware (both EU and NA) I'm going back to v2.01EU. I cannot stand transfer speeds of 1.5 Mb/sec, 40% lower signal strength and inability to use 40Mhz-wide channels on 2.4. >:(

With all the bugs it had, previous firmware performed times better than this sh*ty release.

I can confirm the low signal strength. :( I reached 2.5mb/sec on 5GHZ band yesterday. But that is still not what I envision.

How do you see this inability to use 40mhz on 2.4GHz? You can't choose it in the setup screen?

It can be selected in wireless setup, but all wlan stuff detect DIR-825 transmission as narrow channel (20Mhz). This only happens on 2.4 band and first noticed with the latest update (EU and NA); previous firmwares work fine.

Can somebody else confirm this bug?

I have just bought the router and it is a frustrating experience:

After hours I have found out that due to a bug in the 2.01 firmware SIP is not working  >:(. So I updated to 2.02EU and SIP works now! (At least something!)

After that I was trying to push up my 802.11n connection from 150Mbit to 300Mbit without success on 2.4Ghz! Now I read something about a bug.  Can somebody else confirm this?  ???

And another thing:

My PC has an Azurewave NU-222 Wlan-adapter and I do not manage to see the 5.0 Ghz SSID of the router nor to connect at this bandwidth. Does somebody have this adapter and has managed to connect at 5Ghz?

Regards!

As far as I know Azurewave NU-222 is 2.4 GHz only so it can't see or connect at 5.0 GHz.
