When is the 655 going Final N?
« on: April 30, 2010, 02:52:56 PM »

I noticed that the Draft N spec went final July 17, 2009 and was published October 29, 2009. I also noticed that according to the IEEE all a device will need to meet Final N specifications is a Firmware update.
Is the 1.33 FW still marked as Draft2.0?

My guess is that if the device met the final spec, it would be touted in the release notes, and advertised as such. I'm not an employee, so hopefully one of the moderators will answer your question.

Where to look:  www.wi-fi.org   They are the certification organization for wireless network devices.

Specific info for the DIR-655:
http://certifications.wi-fi.org/pdf_certificate.php?cid=WFA4879

The second Draft N was the basic wireless N certification.  As you say any device conforming to that draft could be altered to conform with the final N standard with firmware changes.  That's why the certification predates the final standard release, all that happened was it moved from draft N to full N certified once the standard was completed.

I would doubt it would get "final" N.  At some point smallnetbuilder.com was saying that hardware that got certified draft N 2.0 wouldn't need to get rectified for n final.  If thats the case I doubt dlink would go through the trouble with a new firmware.
