Hi I'm having trouble staying connected to world of warcraft and other MMO's useing my router.. the router works fine for internet browseing or downloading ect but for some reason after I enter a game like world of warcraft after a few minutes of playing I get disconnected. I have done everything I can think of to get it to stop disconnecting me but I cant figure it out. When I plug my network directly into my computer it works fine so im thinking it must be a problem with how my router is set up. I'm wondering If you have any suggestions or help with my issue. Thanks!

Try connecting your computer to a switch then to your router.

I was experiencing the same issues ever since I upgraded my PC with a new motherboard.  The network controller would occasionally cause the port on the router to reset.  The rest of the system was unaffected and my previous PC had no issues with the exact same software (Win7 and Norton Security Suite).

Once I plugged my PC into a gigabit switch then the router, my problems disappeared.

What is your ISP Service? Cable or DSL?
What is your ISP modem? Stand alone or built in router?
How are you connecting wired or wireless?

Try setting up any port forwarding or QoS

I am not sure how you could go modem>switch>router. Could you explain this set up? Unless you turn off the router and reset the modem, I am not sure any computer could bridge a IP through the switch.  Unless you can have multiple IP's.

In general though, you bring up a good point. Alot of times NIC's can have advanced settings that will effect the trafficking of packets over the connection that cause issue with time sensitive data like MMORPG's. This is especailly true for wireless connections.
