Creating an FTP Server

For some strange reason i cant get it going...
What i have now is that when someone tries to connect (for testing its a browser client) they can log in but then it times out while saying you dont have the right permisions to view a certain folder.  The FTp server is Bulletproof the the file dir seems to be ok, any suggestions? Any idea what i could be missing?  Please tell me what are the steps needed so that i can make sure ive done it properly??

If you want me to attempt to log into your FTP (I'm a bit of an old hand and would get more information than the average user) PM me the IP and port and I'll give it a go.

My gut response however is that the problem can't be the router as you are establishing a connection and clearly past the router at that point.

I've seen this with my own FTP server, ensure that the premissions for the drive you are attempting to access are correct. What are you using to host the FTP?

I've used that. NOT A FAN, however when it does work it's ok. I ran in to this issue constantly. Try this. Disable the FTP ALG in the router and change the FTP port to something like 111, then try to connect. If it works then the ALG is screwin with you.

What other FTP server software do you guys like to use?
AS fir this FTP ALG, where do i find that? I cant seem to see it... unless im looking for the wrong setting. :lol:
Yeah, so far i think the HD's permissions are fine, everyone is set for full control and i even have it shared out.  Im also getting the same issue when i try to connect to my XP machine... so can it be possible that its a router config issue?

Thanks for the PM, I'm posting your response on here as it may be helpful to see what kind of thing will cause these problems.

Your FTP server has a restriction on what IP addresses can perform a directory listing.  I believe it's called Client IPs in BulletProof.  You will need to change that.

Thanks for the heads up.... im looking around but i cannot find anything like that.  The only options i see for restriction of the IPs seem to be off.  Hmmmm ill digg around in bulletproof some more to see, in the meantime can you please suggest a good FTP SERVER software for Vista 64?

Another question, router related, i only have the port forwarded... is that fine or are they other things i could do.  I tried to play around with Virtural server but i couldnt get that to work at all.  No Connection attempts at all.

Is the SPI enabled or disabled? Also whats the NAT endpoint filter set to?

SPI is curently checked and NAT ENDPOINT FILTERING is set to;
UDP: Address Restricted
TCP: Port and Address restrict

Uncheck SPI and open the filters up all the way. See if that helps.

As for suggestions I use FileZilla on a daily basis without difficulty.  Though I much prefer my various Linux based solutions, I have never found a Windows FTP server that I trusted as much as some of the Linux daemons.

Lycan, thanks for the heads up... i tried that and still no go.  Ive also tried other FTP server software (winftp, WSftp and some others) and they all have the same outcome, times out when trying to list.

Man this is effn furstrating... My next mission is to unplug the router and to try direct to modem.  Hopefully ill have the chance to bring her down tonight and to try this out.
