Firefly Addon Package apkg
« on: May 06, 2010, 03:15:46 PM »

A few notes about the Firefly package that I played around with, today.

iTunes connection:
- Be sure to scan the music library at least once, before attaching via iTunes.
- Any time you make a new playlist, you may need to disconnect from the server, then reconnect.

Managing package:
- I would consider this a design bug: If the Firefly addon is installed, but not running, the normal, internal iTunes server configuration is not available. If you want to use the internal iTunes server feature, you need to DELETE the Firefly addon.
- Note that Firefly does not pick up the directory name for the music files from the internal iTunes server configuration, you'll need to set this from the Firefly configuration page.

Suggestions for enhancement:
- I would love to be able to auto-generate playlists, e.g., a playlist for every artist, or every album.
- It would be _nice_ to have the configuration UI integrated with the primary UI, but that is a nit (-pick).

I love this new addition! With the ability to create playlists, I might actually use this as a media server now!

I cant get mine to work with Safari 5 or Firefox 3.5, I get blank pages and then it becomes inaccessible when I click on itunes server in advanced. Any suggestion on how to get firefly working.......

Thanks,

I don't remember setting a port. It uses Bonjour, so it is self-discovered, once it is started.

ok, I saw and tried that - but I get an 401 Unauthorized message. I am not getting prompted for a userid/pwd.
I saw that the firefly config file is in /mnt/HD_a2/Nas_Prog/iTunes/etc/mt-daapd.conf and shows that the port is 3668 and the admin_pw is mt-daapd.
Shouldn't I be prompted to enter this password? Why do I only get the 401 error and no prompt.
Any ideas appreciated.

I am sorry - I just noticed that it's not obvious from my previous postings that I want to access the Firefly's server web admin interface.
iTunes connects fine to the server and sees all the music and also the playlists from the iTunes library.xml file I dropped on the NAS.
I now want to adjust some parms (i.e. narrow down the path to my folder of music and not the whole Volume_1 that seems to be set by default ...) via the web admin interface, but get 401 Unauthorized messages.

@wrlee - from your previous posting I assumed that you were using the web admin interface ...

... you'll need to set this from the Firefly configuration page.
...

... or what 'Firefly configuration page' are you referring too?

I love this new addition! With the ability to create playlists, I might actually use this as a media server now!

Me too! If I just could configure some details now ...

TIA and Cheers,
alex

I'm not at home right now, so I am writing this from memory. If you go to the iTunes Server tab on the web admin interface and click on the button at the bottom... it will open a new page specifically to administer the Firefly plugin.

I tried that but the iTunes Server web admin page seems to be completely screwed up. I either get a blank page or one that has a different layout than all the other web admin pages and in any cases the web admin interface is not responsible for a while (a minute or two - I guess the web server crashed and restarts itself ...).
Are you running fw 1.09 (or 1.08 ...?).
Did you ever start the built in iTunes Server? I did and that might be the reason why things are screwed up ... (?).
In any case - it's hard to believe for me that I am the only one having these issues so I am trying to find out, what I might have done wrong and/or what is different in my setup.
TIA and Cheers,
alex

I tried that again after a factory restore and it works.
Looks like as if you want to use the Firefly add-on/apkg then it only works if you either have never started the built in iTunes Server before - at least with fw 1.09, maybe someone who managed to get that working with fw 1.08 can chime in.
Cheers,

I think I'm running 1.08. Try uninstalling (i.e., deleting) the firefly plugin and reinstalling it. I believe I did run the standard iTunes server before installing Firefly.
