DIR 655 frequently disconnects
« on: May 22, 2010, 08:09:36 PM »

Hi all,

I bought a DIR 655 (hardware version A4) recently and I flashed it to firmware 1.33NA (however, it still shows the version number 1.32NA on the configuration page).

Both before or after flashing the firmware, it was very unstable and disconnects the wireless frequently.  Anyone has an idea on why it happens and what I could do to fix it?  Thanks a lot.

Do a Factory Reset and then reflash.  Save your config file, do reset, flash, and then restore config.

I did reset before, to solve an annoying bug.  So reset has no use.

The bug is:  once I set NTP server, I couldn't set it back to disabled.  I wonder who is the writer of the firmware.  Why don't you do enough test before releasing such kind of garbage.

Incorrect firmware version number is not an important problem.  The problem really annoying is it disconnects very often.  Even before I flashed the firmware it already has such kind of problem.

I wonder if there is something wrong in the configuration I posted.

Seems hard reset makes the version number correctly displayed.  However, the disconnection issue is still there and quite annoying.  So hard reset doesn't work at all.  Anyone has any other ideas?

Only use:
WPA Mode:(WPA2)
Cipher Type:(AES)
channel: 1-6-11
channel is +-22Mhz and they overlapping each other.

Test that.  :o

Hi kthaddock,

What do you mean by 1-6-11, do you mean choose either 1 or 6 or 11?

OS : Mac OS X, 10.5.8
Router : DIR-655
Firmware Version : 1.34NA
Hardware Version : A4

I've had the 655 for about 6 mos. now, no problems at all until this w/e. I updated the f/w from 1.32NA to 1.34NA this past Fri. (2 days ago) and now I can't connect to the web if I leave the Mac for a couple of hours. I did not have the problem previously. Power cycle the router (not the DSL modem) gets me connected again.

Yes, I saved the settings before updating and restored the settings after, no settings were changed.

I'm on DSL, the Mac is ethernet connected, haven't tested wireless function yet.

Do you have any Windows 7 machines. If so, you may be the victim of the  "wireless restart".

I recently put a Windows 7 machine (hardwired) on my network. Windows 7 uses IPv6 which confuses the router and causes it to restart the wireless connections often - thus the dropped connections seen on the wireless. The evidence of the wireless restarts is seen in the router log file.

I turned off IPv6 on Windows 7 and the problem seems to be gone.
