DNS-343 & Bluray
« on: June 03, 2010, 12:35:51 AM »

I am having trouble with playing bluray movies stored on the DNS-343 and playing them with VLC media player.

When i play a bluray movie it plays for about 10-20 seconds then starts buffering again.

i have full gigabit internal network so it doesn't seem to be my network at fault.
or am i sadly mistaken about how much throughput bluray streaming needs?

I've actually managed to stream 1080p 5.1 surround WMV and AVI (or mp4, can't remember) files over wireless N from the DNS-323 to my media streamer and it didn't stutter at all. No one was more surprised than me. Whether or not that was down to how much data the media streamer was buffering, I don't know.

I've got my DNS-323 with 2 Seagate hard drives in RAID1 (ST3500320AS 500GB SATA II 7200rpm 32MB Cache)

Are there any configuration options in VLC player regarding how much data to buffer?

I would suggest not using VLC. Try using Window Media Player Classic. VLC Doesnt use hardware acceleration and it will slow down with 1080p movies for sure. I used to have the same problem.

Hope that helps.
