Emulator Problems
« on: June 04, 2010, 03:42:03 PM »

I have a DIR-655, and haven't needed it in about 3 years. Now, after moving to a new house, I find that I have to use it again. There's one catch: I need a firmware upgrade, and the website emulator is not working for me. Any clickable buttons on the firmware section of the emulator (as well as nearly all of the rest of the site) will not register. I don't know if this is a problem on my end, or a problem with the emulator itself, but I can't find a way to bypass it. My default router IP is giving me nothing, reinstalling the router stops at the verification step with a 112 error (incorrect router), and I can't seem to find any help on other forums. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for your time...

You do not use the emulator to make changes to your router.  You log into the router administration interface to do that.  Assuming it is still at default you would enter 192.168.0.1 into your Internet Browser and configure it from there.

The emulator is for demonstration purposes only.

Unfortunately, entering the default IP gets me to a Network Timeout page. I would love to log into my router and adjust some things, but the default IP isn't getting me anywhere. At least I know I'm not going crazy with the emulator, though I do feel a bit silly for trying. Any suggestions on how to find my router's IP, in the event it has been changed from default?

Thanks for the help...

Press in the reset button on the back of the router.  This will put it back to factory defaults and you can try the 192.168.0.1 again.

Dave~~

Thanks for the help. It appears that my router may have a hardware issue. There is no indication of a reset occurring, even though I have hit the reset button, and a hard reset isn't working either. The issue still remains, and I am still unable to log into this router. Unfortunately, it appears that I will have to buy a new unit....

Thanks anyway!

You have to push the button in then remain holding the button in until the lights flash.
