DIR-655 enable website filter
« on: June 07, 2010, 07:07:58 AM »

I followed the instruction to setup "website filter" and "Access Control", it didn't work. Another user suggested disable "SecurePort" may work, but it didn't work for me. Can anyone help?
Firmware: 1.34NA
Hardware: A3

Thanks.

Make sure you have the DNS Relay enabled.

SAME PROBLEM HERE --->  NOW SOLVED!!

MAKE SURE DLINK SERVICE "SECURESPOT" IS DISABLED.

ADVENCED ---> SECURE SPOT ---> DISABLED

APPARENTLY SECURE SPOT SERVICE OVERRIDES LOCAL WEB ACCESS RESTRICTIONS.  (SECURESPOT SERVICE IS NOT!! FREE)

(HOPE ITS GOING TO HELP)

Not sure why, I already have the SecureSpot disabled (under Advanced), the filter is still not working.

I had to disable Dynamic Fragmentation in the QoS settings as well before it started to work for me.

As elementary as this may sound...Aside from disabling Securespot and enabling access control, have you created a policy? I don't believe Web filtering will work until a policy is created.

Guys, thank you for helping out, but still no luck, here is what I did;
- Advanced > Website Filter > enter URL and domain, ex "facebook.com" "facebook"
- Advanced > Access Control > Enable Access Control (check)
- Add Policy > Always > Other machines > Block some access & Apply web filter > web logging disabled > Save
- Advanced > Securespot > uncheck
- QOS engine > Dynamic Fragmentation (uncheck)

What did I do wrong?

I just went and checked my previous posts, and another tweak that I had to make (presumably... I did make a lot of tweaks) was to make sure that DNS Relay was enabled.

Yep, I did have the DNS Relay enabled;
Setup > Network Settings > Routing Settings > Enable DNS Relay (checked)

I'm stumped then.

I just re-enabled dynamic fragmentation because the QoS doesn't seem to be working without it: VoIP uplink voice quality was so bad everyone kept calling back for a better connection.

Of course, re-checking the Access Control (by attempting to browse to a previously blocked site) shows that the website filter is no longer working.

This router really needs someone who can write firmware!!!

Instructions are incorrect.

In order to block, say any site with tracker in the name, enter just tracker.
To block goggle.com just enter goggle, not goggle.com.
to block adultfriendfinder.com, just enter friendfinder.  Nothing else.
leave out all prefixs and suffixes.

I have done that as well, just entered "facebook" at WebSite Filter, but still not working.

Have a look at this!

Website Filter Parameters

Website URL/Domain
Enter the URL (address) of the Web Site that you want to allow or deny; for example: google.com.
Do not enter the http:// preceding the URL. Enter the most inclusive domain; for example, select allow and enter dlink.com and access will be permitted to both www.dlink.com and support.dlink.com.

Note: Many web sites construct pages with images and content from other web sites. For example, to access my.yahoo.com, you would need to select allow and type yahoo.com, yimg.com, and doubleclick.net.
