Can't install DIR-655 to use Internet
« on: June 08, 2010, 11:00:01 AM »

Hi all,

I've just gotten the DIR-655 and I want to use it to connect my PC to the internet (as well as connect 1 other PC to it, evetually, and a mediacenter via wireless). Right now I am happy with using a cable as my PC does not yet have a wireless USB thingie.

Ok. So, I went to the router's webinterface using the 192.168.0.1 address and tried to manually install the connection/settings based on what my ISP gave me. They said that if you're using a router other than one of their own (which I am doing) then I will need the following information:

Mode:            RFC1483 Routed
Protocol:            ENET ENCAP (Ethernet Encapsulation)
Multiplexing:    LLC (Logical Link Control)
Encapsulation:    AAL5 snap
VPI:               0
VCI:               34
IP-address:    Dynamic
A username or password as well as 'hostname' is NOT needed

So, my question is: where do I see the RFC1483 Routed option? I can only see DHCP, PPPoE, etc.
Also, the VPI/VCI setting is nowhere for me to select.

Anyways, this all means that I can connect to my router but the internet won't start up.

Cheers for any help!

This basically means you shouldn't have to touch anything to make it work. I assume you have an ethernet cable coming out of the modem and into the WAN port on the router. The WAN port on the router is the one separated from the rest.

Let me know if you have that part all setup
