IMHO, I do not think its stable....I bought this router back in Feburary '10. And it's been giving me a headache....The only think that is annoying the hell out of me, is the lack of firmware updates for it.

And a very annoying issue wish occures every day under heavy load....."random connection lost" .

If they call this stable well....you will be in world of s***. >:(

v1.22 has been working great "under heavy load" for me and others. I know that an update for the 4500 is not forth coming anytime soon. I would return the unit for an RMA and try a different unit.

In reply to the OP - yes, 1.22 NA is stable.  Much more stable than any other 1.2x series of firmware.

In reply to 420, it's pretty simple - the items bought from stores / online retailers, and especially those with Rev A hardware, seem to have issues independent of the firmware used (case in point, I purchased mine in Jan '09, and had nothing but issues, until I RMA'd it in Oct or Nov - and since then it has been smooth sailing).

Stop trying to fight with it - learn from my fighting of 9 months! and RMA it now.

Something to note, which MAY be a issue, the 4500 uses a mini-PCI radio card inside right? I remeber taking apart my 4300 for kicks and noticed something like this

::Edit:: The embed functions on these boards are glitchy huh?

I wonder if some have different versions of that card and since the firmware updates the build in driver for it, I wonder if that could be the wild card. Things that make you go hmmmmm...

If I remember someone posted pics of the inside of the 4500 and it doesn't use a PCI card...everything is pretty much on board...

Was just a crazy thought. I was reading about how in older routers, when the transition from b to g happened, some were able to insert a new card into the router and the board supported it. Things have changed since then, and now you can pretty much find g routers at yards sales for 5$.

One day though, I want to set out building a router. Every time I go to my boss with any kind of network question, its always the same thing..."Make a linux box". ::chuckle::
