Which notebook card should I get?
« on: March 03, 2008, 06:37:00 PM »

Hello,

I was just reading that there is a DWA-160 notebook card out. Would this be the best choice to use for my laptop instead of this DWA-643 > Xtreme N Notebook ExpressCard or
DWA-652 > Xtreme N Notebook Adapter?

Having no luck getting my Belkin Pre N adapter to connect to my DGL-4500. Keep getting can not find certificate.
But I want the best performance so I was thinking getting a new adpater.

Can someone provide me with some assistance?

Thanks
Kenny

The DWA-160 would be a great choice for the DGL-4500 IF you are OK with it using a USB port and you have a freely accessible USB port. They are both 11n Draft 2.0 devices, together they support either a 2.4 or 5GHz band wireless connections.

You may want to start a new topic on the DGL-4500 with your Blkn adapter and the error you get. With over 3000 members someone on the board may have a solution for you.

AWDL,

Thanks for the response back. From what I can tell the DWA-160 is not out yet. I will play around with the router, I probably don't have it configure correctly.

Thanks again,
Kenny

So far the DWA-160 is vaporware and not worth $120 if you could get it.  I'm using the DWA-652 and it can be had for $60 at Best Buy.  The only problem is it's only a 2GHz card.  I really want a 5GHz cardbus card but I am only wishing since I know D-Link will not deliver.  I've kept up hope in the past with other products with only disappointments.  I made the mistake in choosing D-Link again.  Unfortunately it was the better of the current evils so I ended sucking it up.  I don't expect any 5GHz cardbus products any time soon or that this router would be firmware upgradeable to the final spec (they do claim the latter).  One of the telltale signs that product (4500 & 652) support is coming to an end is when their firmwares are not being updated as often.  November for the 4500 and September for the 652.  Nobody tell me that the products are 100% therefore no fixes are needed!  Every product has a support shelf life and unfortunately these are going to be short.
