Which SATA revision does the DNS-323 have?
« on: June 18, 2010, 02:15:58 AM »

Is the SATA controller revision 1 or 2 (I'm assuming not 3)

I can't seem to find the answer.

Since the box doesn't come close to 1.5ghz transfer rates, it's somewhat a moot point, no? :)  BTW, the data rate is not the only thing that distinguishes SATA-1 from SATA-2, other features changed as well.

Sata II. As GRJ stated, that is not the limitation of the device speed at this time.

I was just curious to know as I believe some drives require a correctly set jumper to determine the correct mode? I appreciate the speeds won't be reached.

FWIW, I've had at least three different brands of SATA drives in my boxes, all of them with the 3.0ghz interface, none of them had any problems with the NAS.

What do you think about buying the more expensive enterprise level drives that are specifically designed for RAID arrays, with the higher MTBF and the short error recovery times?

I was reading in another thread that using desktop drives with the long error recovery time could be the problem when users are complaining of randomly slow or degraded drives after a period of time.

Presumably D-Link have designed the box to be able to take most desktop drives- but how about the TLER/ERC/CCTL time issue in desktop drives in a RAID array?

Personally, I wouldn't mind spending the extra if I thought it would be a more reliable solution.

I've had no problems with the cheap spread, but I don't have any of the 4k sector drives.
