internet keeps dropping and reconnecting
« on: July 02, 2010, 10:44:30 PM »

I have Cable modem with Shaw in Vancouver , BC.

when I hook up internet direct to computer no problems it works fine.

but when I hook it up through router...

I keep seeing the network page change to this by itself,

"Please wait...

The gateway is currently measuring your network connection.
Accessing this web page might have an effect on the measurement.
This page will refresh shortly."

Every 20 min - 1 hour i get the msg above & it will just drop my internet/network for 10-20 seconds then automatically reconnect.
It is so annoying b/c it crashes my programs that are streaming.

I tried replacing it with same model thinking it was broken but nope, new one same problem.

I've tried fiddling around with as many settings as I could with no luck.

Any ideas what is wrong?

Talk with your ISP about MAC-reservesion.

You have different MAC on computer and router.

You have to activate with a different MAC

if you can actually get on the internet with your router i would say its not an issue with mac reservation.

as to why your router keeps droping the connection i can't tell you, you can try updating the firmware to the most recent version and reseting your settings to defaults to see if its works any better.

if you wanted to test out his mac theroy it is easy to fix go to your router page from your main computer (the one you have hooked up directlly to your modem and it works fine) click setup, manual internet connection setup, clone your pc's mac address, save settings and reboot both your modem and your router.

no need to call your isp

it seems it gets worse(drops then immediately reconnects more frequently) when other computers on the network try to use internet at same time. My firmware version is 1.32NA. I already tried resetting it, even replacing it with brand new one same model and still same problem.

FOr some reason the firmware check told me i had most recent version with 1.32, I manually downloaded upgraded firmware to 1.34, hopefully this fixes it
