Brand new DIR-655 "bricked"?
« on: July 06, 2010, 05:29:46 AM »

Hi There,

About two hours ago I purchased a DIR-655 and brought it home to replace an old router that has been having increasing wifi issues. Following the instructions of the CD I ran through the setup procedure of replacing a router. All was fine until it got to the section of installing the new D-Link router where it began erroring saying that the device needed to be reset, so following the instructions I reset it. Then as soon as I did this it gave me an error telling me that it could not detect any compatible routers. I tried again a number of times and eventually decided to attempt to set it up manually.

With only the network cable connected to my computer and to the router it would not obtain an IP address, I manually set an IP address to 192.168.0.100 and tried to connect however this did not work. I tried to do a factory reset however the same issue has persisted. I have been reading different places on the internet with little luck and have eventually found my way here... Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to solve this issue?

I cannot do a factory reset via "Holding the reset button on the rear of the device for 20 seconds" as this seems to do absolutely nothing...

Cheers,

Seems like you've done everything right; did you try shutting down your firewall?  You're connecting to http://192.168.0.1 right?  You might need to call D-Link on that one.

Also, I avoid those installation CDs.  Those are for people who don't know any networking.  :)

I had to do this to my router to get it to come back after a "default"
This might be tricky, but see if you can do it.

1. Unplug the power adapter from the router (not just turning off power to the adpater, don't ask why, dunno!)
2. Press and hold the reset button.
3. Plug power adapter back in.
4. Hold for a while (20-30 secs).

Then my router came back to life.

I hope this helps.

Hi Crafty,

How are you connected to the Internet? Cable Modem? FIOS Modem/Router?

Did you remove the power from the Modem?
