Very Strange Problem
« on: July 21, 2010, 07:20:23 PM »

I have/had a folder called Movies on volume 2 of my DNS 323. Out of nowhere it has disappeared. The strange thing is the the properties of the drive still says 450 GB of used space. The other strange thing is if I create a new folder it will not let me name it "Movies". Its like its there but hidden. I'm running Win 7 but I never put my movie folder in hidden Status. Any Help?

I guess you will need to use funplug and telnet. Find the directory on the usual path and check dir permissions.

Many times a factory reset and manual reconfiguration will bring back files lost to permissions errors.

My problem is related:

I have two 1TB drives in standard mode. Also I have two scheduled backups as follows:

Volume_1/Myfolder -> Volume_2/Myfolder (incremental)
Volume_2/Myfolder -> Volume_1/Myfolder (incremental)

This is to have an exact copy of that folder in both drives, and wherever I add files I know the next day will be on the other drive too.

Now the problem is that there are strange folders appearing among the subfolder. They are empty, created out of nothing, and named with a letter only (i.e. U, D, H, F). Last night I deleted them from both drives and this morning one of the drives had again four subfolders created out of nothing. Now I am really afraid that something can also disappear like the guy in this thread showed. I bought DNS-323 just to have a secure backup and now even this is in trouble.

Any idea or previous encounter with the problem? (I haven't searched the forum extensively yet)
