Hello,

I have looked around but not found a valid explanation on how to make correctly route the modem so when i go to it's address in the browser it will pull the modem interface. I want to have this available to me because both my DIR-628 and modem are very far away from the location of my desktop.

Before I begin explaining my problem please keep in mind:

Router : 192.168.0.2
Modem: 192.168.0.1

Ok, I have a speedstream router, and my ISP is AT&T. They use PPOE conection and i have dynamic IP so you have to fill in all the information into the modem in order to activate the connection. Since all the connection details have to be filled into the modem, in the router set-up i set it to dynamic DHCP and I just filled in the DNS server addresses. This set up works fine and the connection to the internet is almost flawless.

However, sometimes the modem craps out and i want to be able to access its interface. What i mean is that if i go to 192.168.0.1 in my browser it automatically redirects me to the modem, instead of giving me a 404 error because right now it's going through the router. I read somewhere that this can be done in the 'routing' page but i couldn't find a specific explanation for a similar set-up like mine.

The modem is also a "simple" router since it is assigning an IP address of 192.168.0.2 to the DIR-628 WAN port.  Your router then must not be using the same IP range of 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.0.254.

what? I'm sorry I'm not understanding what you're saying. By default both the router and the modem come with the IP of 192.168.0.1. I changed the router to .2 so that way it's not the same as the modem.

Both the modem & the router is assinging the 192.168.0.xxx series of IP addresses.  You may need to adjust the router to be using the 192.168.2.xxx addresses so that the modem (192.168.0.1) can be access via the WAN port (192.168.0.2.)

ah Ok. I understand now. Thank you. Would i just have to change the router IP or do i need to change the DHCP range & subnet mask for the router too?

Yes, you will need to change both.  Changing the router's IP will "break" your network.  The assigned IPs to the PCs will need to match the IP "scheme" in order to work.
