UAC must be disabled on the W7 boxes before their NAS will work properly with a scheduled backup access to a Windows 7 share

FWIW that isn't the case for me. I have UAC enabled (in the default configuration of 'Always notify') and the account that I used in the parameters to the 'Scheduled Download' does not have administrator rights. I fully agree with your position on not disabling UAC and would take the same stance myself.

Yup, the UAC bit was a "shot in the dark" I'm afraid.
You did trigger some thoughts on additional testing though, still no Joy
Here's the additional testing:

Created a new user account (non-priveleged) added it to the share with FULL control
TEST FAILED
Booted W7 box in SAFE-MODE with NETWORKING tried several user accounts
TESTS FAILED

Here is what is shown by net share on my w7 Ultimate
C:\Windows\system32>net share foo

Assuming that you're using NTFS that isn't good enough on its own, what are the permissions on the disk structure?? You can view that information from the Security tab of the Properties dialog for any given entity on disk or by using a tool like Sysinternals' AccessChk

NTFS permissions (Security TAB on folder being shared) have each account, including Everyone and Guest as full control for the purpose of this testing.

This is so amateurish from Dlink that I will loudly recommend against buying their products on twitter and facebook. GEESH, how badly do you have to suck!?

Workaround:

Create a new text file named "DailyBackup.bat"
inside it, write the following:

SET DlinkFolder=\\MyDlinkDrive\Volume_1

RoboCopy /S /XO D:\Images %DlinkFolder%\Images
RoboCopy /S /XO D:\Documents %DlinkFolder%\Documents
RoboCopy /S /XO D:\Movies %DlinkFolder%\Movies

Save that file, now you can SCHEDULE that file to run i.e. every night. Obviously, you need to change the folder names on source and destination to match your needs, however, this works fairly painlessly.

Thanks for the input and suggestions.
I no longer am attempting to use the device to perform the functions as DLINK cannot make it work.
I have two other NAS that perform this task quite nicely thank you.
