Speedstream 4100 & DIR-655 help!
« on: July 24, 2010, 09:16:41 AM »

ISP: BT (uk)
Modem: Speedstream 4100
Router: DIR-655

I recently purchased the Dlink DIR-655 mainly for online gaming.  My brother and I both use a PC and a PS3 each, and both play MW2 online.

I have read multiple guides on the internet about configuring the two together and have reached the conclusion that I need to set the 4100 in bridge mode and to handle the PPPoE authentication through the DIR-655.

Originally we had the modem setup as standard, with our Broadband username/password in the modem config, but due to the fact that the modem also has NAT and DHCP enabled in order to get online (in bridge mode unable to connect) it has caused a conflict between the 4100 and the DIR-655 meaning we can access websites but both PS3s are stuck in NAT type 3.  We have tried enabling ports for 1 ps3, and setting the other in DMZ but to no avail.

We have also tried connecting the modem to a single pc in bridge mode, and then setting up the broadband connection through the PC/DIR-655 however we are unable to get online.  It seems the issue is with the PPPoE with BT and DSL.

I am aware that I need to have the modem in bridge mode, plugged directly into the DIR-655 and run the PPP from there, however there is no PPPoA setting within DIR-655 and the modem will only connect through PPPoA.  When the modem is in bridge mode we are unable to connect at all.

Is there any way around this problem or should I accept that the DIR-655 will not work with my setup =(  Please help.
