Typical transfer rates
« on: July 25, 2010, 06:55:03 AM »

Hello everyone

I'm using the DIR-825 with the DWA-160 adapter. I have connected a DNS-321 NAS to the router. I'm getting an average wireless transfer rates between my laptop and the NAS of 6.5 MB/s in the 5ghz band and 5.6 MB/s in the 2.4 band. The wireless signal is excellent, connected at 300 Mbps. The NAS and router connection is showing at 1000 Mbps. I have limited the 2.4 band to "N and g only" while the 5ghz band is limited to N only. I'm using the Intel NAS Performance Tool Kit to measure the transfer speeds.

I was wondering what speed are you guys getting with this router. I was expecting getting 10-12 MB/s. What can I do to improve the transfer speed?

Thanks

My experience is similar to, and actually slightly worse than yours.  There is a sticky message in the section above  on this forum with guidance on maximizing speeds.  It's probably worth trying them if you're not already practicing them as a matter of course (they're pretty elementary).  They did not help me.

Some seem to report good speeds.  More speeds like ours.  I suspect the latter is the more common (since it is my experience  ;)).  Most people, though, don't really know what to expect.

Good luck.

I double checked that my settings matched what is listed in the sticky note. Everything matched except that I haven't updated my router firmware to 2.03. I have read so many complaints about it thru other posts that I'm skeptical about its effectiveness.

I did found out that there is a discrepancy between the rate reported by the network adapter and the router. The adapter shows 300 Mbps while the router shows 140 Mbps under the wireless status menu.
