Email notification is not enabled.
« on: July 29, 2010, 06:58:18 AM »

Hi,

I've searched the forum for this message and haven't found an answer. I hope someone can help.

I've enabled Email notification and I think I have things set up correctly. However, when I click on the "Email Now" button on the Logs page I get a small message window with the message "Email notification is not enabled.".

I know it's enabled, otherwise the "Email Now" button would be grayed out.

I have just upgraded to firmware 1.21.

Can someone help.

Hi HighSierra,

I also have that version of the firmware and do Email my logs.

Remember that there is a From Email Address and a To Email Address. They must be different for you to receive the Emailed logs. You must supply the correct password to the From Email Address.

You need to use the correct SMTP Server Name as well as its Port number.

A From Email Address and a To Email Address can be the same, if the Email is small. Large Emails will not go through, because they figure that you already have the Email initially, so it is blocked.

@ thecreator

I've verified all the settings and they comply with what you stated. However the message I'm getting isn't indicating an email failure. The message states that I don't have email enabled and that isn't true.

@ kthaddock why do you suggest a reset to factory defaults?

I really don't feel like re-entering all my parameters. especially all the port forwards and application rules.

HighSierra

Did you do an upgrade and use restorefile, gws-file. to get your settings ?
If then there is probable problem with settings.

Hi HighSierra,

I would recommend that you must reenter all your parameters again, because you have just upgraded.

Do a Factory Reset before reentering the information. Then as long as you aren't upgrading, save the entered parameters to a Hard Drive File after confirming that what you have entered works.

A Factory Reset will save you a lot of time now.

OK, I'll do what you suggest.

Man, what's the point of a back up if it's useless.  :'(

Whenever you do a major firmware upgrade, 1.1 -> 1.2 or 1.2 -> 1.3, there is always a good chance that the config file will not work.  When doing the in-family flashes 1.2 -> 1.21 or 1.3 -> 1.32  restoring the config file usually has no issues.

The best thing to do is save your config file and restore after the flash, but if you see issues after a major upgrade the first step should be to do a Factory Reset and manually enter and router settings. After you are done with the settings then save your new config file for use when doing future minor updates.

Hi HighSierra,

Report back, so others following similar problems can learn.

Some simple rules:
1: Don't backup or restore your settings through HTTPS use HTTP!
2: Don't restore settings with gws-file when upgrade, even in same fw region, (1.13>1.32)
3: Always in beta fw do all settings by hand !!!
4: Do a reset with reset button before and after fw upgrade.
Push the reset button and hold it in until lights flash. Wait for router to finish rebooting.
5: Make sure that your energi savings for your networks card not is set on,
" allow this computer shut down this unit to save power"
6: Do'nt ever update or backup settings through wireless, alwas use LAN-cable and
only that cable connected when update, backup settings.

A big issue is all drivers on all laptop and pc, alwas use the latest.
Pic them from wi-fi developer site not from place you purchase your PC, lap-top from.

Many manufacture has problem with power supply therfor there is worth testing with a
another sypply, ex 12 volt and ~3Amp

I never had any issues with restoring config backups after firmware updates.

Make sure that your energi savings for your networks card not is set on,
" allow this computer shut down this unit to save power"

Have no issues with this either and in fact all my cards come out of sleep just fine.
