Best 1.5tb drive in Raid 1
« on: July 30, 2010, 07:12:47 AM »

Hi all,

I've had my DNS-323 for the past 3+ years and have been very pleased with it.  I've kept up with the firmware updates and the two seagate 400gb drives i originally installed, still run to this day.  The only problem I've had to date is that one of the LED lights (left) has gone dead.

I've made it a habbit to read through this forum periodically just to see what's the latest news, but have never had a need to do anything other than update firmware since my drive capacity was sufficient and I didn't encounter any issues with the NAS.

But, it's about time I upgraded my drives as one of them has begun to degrade in Raid 1.  So I've been researching through most of the posts here, Newegg, and Amazon to find the most stable 1.5tb drives in Raid 1.  I understand that I need to stay away from any WD EARS, and not many EADS are still available. So I'm leaning towards the Seagate ST31500341AS (on the compatibility list), but would like to have comments from anyone who has their DNS-323 in Raid 1 with 1.5tb drives.

Thanks in advance.

I can't say if it is the "best" or not, but I have a Seagate ST31500341AS paired with a WD EADS 1.5TB in a Raid 1 (I like to mix manufacturers although it if often not suggested) and have had no issues.
